Staff Tax Accountant (Bookkeeping & Tax Support)Position Overview
We are seeking a Staff Tax Accountant to serve in a supporting, non-client-facing role within our tax and accounting practice. This position is designed for an experienced accounting professional with a bookkeeping or accounting background supporting partners during tax season and accounting/compliance work for the year.
The role will focus primarily on bookkeeping, tax return data entry, and compliance support, with limited direct client interaction. This is not a lead preparer or advisory role.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform ongoing bookkeeping services using QuickBooks (Online and/or Desktop)
- Prepare and organize financial data for tax return preparation
- Enter tax data into professional tax software under partner or senior staff direction
- Assist with sales tax filings, payroll-related filings, and other miscellaneous compliance filings
- Prepare supporting schedules and workpapers for business and individual tax returns
- Assist with IRS and state correspondence, including notices and information requests
- Communicate with clients on a limited basis to obtain missing documentation or clarification, as directed by partners
- Maintain accurate, well-organized electronic files and documentation
- Support partners and senior accountants during peak tax season with administrative and technical tasks as needed
Qualifications
- 3 years of relevant experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or a related role
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks
- General understanding of accounting principles and financial statements
- Prior experience in a CPA firm or tax environment is a plus, but tax preparation experience is not required
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently under deadlines
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Work Schedule & Expectations
- Approximately 55 hours per week from February 1 through April 15
- Outside of peak season, standard full-time hours
- To balance seasonal overtime, the firm provides two floating days off per month during the remainder of the year on top of standard vacation days.
Compensation
- Estimated Pay Range: $50,000 – $65,000 annually
- Final compensation will depend on experience, software proficiency, and prior accounting background
