Responsibilities and Duties
The Key Holder (Shift Supervisor) is a trusted member of the leadership team responsible for
opening and/or closing the restaurant, supervising staff during assigned shifts, and ensuring
smooth day-to-day operations in the absence of the General Manager or Assistant Manager. This
role requires strong judgment, reliability, and the ability to lead by example on the floor.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Opening/Closing Duties
- Open and/or close the restaurant per established procedures, including arming/disarming the security system and securing the building
- Complete opening/closing checklists (equipment checks, cash drawer counts, food safety logs, cleanliness standards)
- Serve as the responsible key holder for building access, ensuring security protocols are followed
Shift Leadership
- Supervise front-of-house and/or back-of-house staff during assigned shifts
- Assign tasks and stations, and adjust staffing based on real-time business needs
- Serve as the primary point of contact for staff and customer issues when management is off-site
- Step into any role (host, server, cook, cashier) as needed to keep service running smoothly
Operations & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health code standards during the shift
- Monitor and enforce company policies, including cash handling procedures and loss prevention
- Handle guest complaints or escalate to management when appropriate
- Complete shift reports, incident reports, and cash reconciliation as required
Team Support
- Provide on-the-job coaching and feedback to staff during shifts
- Support onboarding/training of new employees when scheduled
- Communicate shift-relevant information to incoming supervisors/managers via handoff notes
- Maintain efficient service, positive guest relations, and ensure products are consistent with quality standards
- Neat, clean professional appearance

- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekend and holidays
- Reliable transportation and availability for opening or closing shifts as scheduled
- Basic math skills for cash handling and register reconciliation
