What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full-Time Bilingual Community Health Worker/Medical Interpreter position at West Central District Health Department?
The Bilingual Community Health Worker (CHW)/Medical Interpreter is responsible for providing health education and outreach to the public across the communities we serve on topics including, but not limited to, obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancers, and mental health issues, serving as a bridge between communities, healthcare, and other social systems. CHW’s collaborate with physicians, nurses, or health workers to deliver culturally appropriate health education or basic screening services while the providers conduct medical exams or provide medical service, and/or connects people with the services they need to promote disease prevention, exercise, and educational programs to meet the needs of clients. Additionally, the Bilingual Community Health Worker (CHW)/Medical Interpreter is responsible for providing accurate, impartial, and confidential interpretation services to facilitate effective communication between patients, families, and healthcare or public health staff. This position supports language access across clinical and public health settings by interpreting spoken and/or written information related to medical services, public health programs, and health-related topics, ensuring individuals with limited English proficiency can fully understand and participate in their care and services. Other duties as assigned.
