What are the responsibilities and job description for the 7D Van Driver 2025-2026 School Year Immediate Opening position at West Boylston Public Schools?
This position is accountable for the operation of a 7D vehicle to safely transport special education students to and from school/programs within the district and at times out of district.
This position is also accountable and responsible for observing and adhering to the safety rules and requirements of the physical care of these children by following the specific directions received from supervisors consistent with the rules and regulations of the West Boylston Public Schools. 7D drivers are responsible to abide by all the rules and regulations as provided by school policies and local, state and federal governmental agencies. 7D drivers must work with students, parents, staff, colleagues and others in a courteous and respectful manner.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: (to be included along with other responsibilities)
1. Pick up and deliver students as per set route and schedule
2. Responsible for supervising special needs children during transportation periods
3. Obey all traffic laws
4. Observe all mandatory safety regulations for 7D vehicles.
5. Be attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring the safety of passengers.
6. Transport only authorized students.
7. Pick up and discharge students only at authorized stops.
8. Responsible for performing safety checks on vehicles in the beginning and end of each day.
9. Check vehicle seats and floor, including under seats, for students after each trip
10. Notify supervisor(s) immediately in case of mechanical failure or delay in scheduled deliveries or pickups; complete accurate reports as required
11. Report all crashes and/or on-board accidents and injuries immediately per protocol and promptly complete accurate reports and forms.
12. Responsible for maintaining a safe environment within the vehicle by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies using a variety of pupil management skills.
13. Report student misconduct according to established procedure.
14. Communicate with students, parents, staff and colleagues in a professional and courteous manner and present as a positive representative of the West Boylston Public Schools.
15. Ensure assigned vehicle is clean and fueled.
16. Maintain regular attendance.
17. Demonstrate high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information.
18. Attend all scheduled training, in-service and safety meetings as required by the West Boylston Public Schools
19. Ability to work effectively as a team member.
20. Performance of other job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor
Work Year: Split shift for 175-180 school days. Summer hours as needed.
Work Hours: Split shift. Minimum of 4 hours per day guarantee with the opportunity for additional hours
