About us
The West Austin Youth Association (WAYA), whose mission is to provide children with the opportunity to reach their full potential in a fun and safe community environment, is seeking an experienced and mission-driven Director of Business Operations (DBO). The DBO will lead daily operations, oversee athletic and facility functions, strengthen partnerships, and ensure exceptional experiences for youth and families. WAYA has served the Austin community since 1980 and provides recreational and educational programs to more than 16,000 youth annually. The DBO plays a critical leadership role in ensuring that programs run smoothly, facilities are safe and well-maintained, and families, volunteers, and partners receive first-class support.
About the Role
The Director of Business Operations (DBO) is a senior leadership position responsible for coordinating daily operations, overseeing community partnerships, managing staff, supporting youth sports programs, supervising facility maintenance, and helping drive long-term strategic goals. This person works closely with the Executive Director (ED) and collaborates across departments to ensure WAYA continues to be the best place in Austin for youth to play and grow.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
- Oversee daily operations to ensure consistently high-quality experiences for families and participants.
- Manage operational processes, safety procedures, and organization-wide policies.
- Support strategic planning and operational goal-setting with the Executive Director.
- Drive revenue growth across WAYA programs and partnerships while strategically managing expenditures to support long-term financial sustainability
- Assist the ED in the resolution of escalated business concerns, including program issues, partnership challenges, or facility-related complaints, ensuring timely communication and high customer satisfaction.
Partnership Program Development & Evaluation
-Lead and grow WAYA’s community partnership programs, including camps, clinics, and classes.
-Identify and evaluate potential youth sports partners and ensure strong mission and program fit.
-Establish and manage sustainable partnership agreements that support quality and financial goals.
-Oversee partnership performance, ensuring programs are safe, high-quality, and responsive to community needs.
-Recommend improvements and new partnership opportunities to expand offerings and increase impact.
Athletic Program Support
- Supervise the Athletic Director on leagues, clinics, tournaments, scheduling, and seasonal planning.
- Assist with budgeting for athletics, equipment, maintenance, and staffing.
- Ensure all programs align with WAYA’s mission and Positive Coaching Alliance principles.
Facility & Campus Oversight
- Supervise the Facility Manager and ensure fields, gyms, and buildings meet safety and cleanliness standards.
- Coordinate vendors, contractors, and capital improvement projects.
- Oversee organizational IT systems, safety procedures, emergency readiness, and facility inspection schedules.
Community Relations
- Maintain strong relationships with AISD, local schools, the City of Austin, vendors, and youth sports partners.
- Support volunteers, coaches, parents, and participants to foster an inclusive community environment.
- Represent WAYA at community meetings, events, and partner engagements.
Financial & Administrative Support
- Assist with budget development and monitor financial performance with the Executive Director and Finance Director.
- Review and approve expenditures, contracts, and program spending.
- Ensure efficient and compliant administrative and financial workflows.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (Business or Management Preferred); Master’s degree a plus
-10 years of progressive leadership experience across small to medium business management, nonprofit administration, or operational oversight roles.
- Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience managing teams, budgets, vendors, and multi-department operations.
- Ability to work on-site and lead staff in a fast-paced youth programming environment.
- High integrity, professionalism, and passion for youth development.
Location: On Site
Hours: Core Hours 11am to 7pm including some weekends.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $70,000–$85,000 depending on experience.
