General Statement of Job
Under the general supervision of the school principal, plans, organizes and presents instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development in accordance with each student’s ability. We are seeking a middle school science teacher to inspire the next generation of scientists.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and licensed by the state of North Carolina in the required area(s), preferred.
- Degree in education or in a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting instruction and instructional environments which help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development
- Conducts lessons or instructional activities at a brisk pace, appropriate to students
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior required to provide and orderly and productive classroom environment
- Evaluates each student's performance and growth in knowledge and understanding, and prepares progress reports
- Maintains and respects the confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
- Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
- Administers standardized tests in accordance with state and district testing requirements
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the superintendent

- Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people, or things.
- Requires the ability to read and prepare a variety of correspondence including reports, handbooks, forms, lists, instructional materials, etc.
- Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments, or directions to subordinates or assistants. Also includes receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.
- Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, etc.
- Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, care, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
