Computer Lab Professional


Purpose

The Computer Lab Professional (CLP) delivers a board-adopted computer lab curriculum to students in grades K-5 that is aligned with priority state standards and follows a district-provided pacing calendar. This role supports K-5 students in developing essential technology skills and knowledge to ensure readiness for middle school and beyond. Additionally, the CLP is responsible for managing student device distribution and collection, as well as troubleshooting student devices throughout the school year.


Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives direct supervision from the building principal and general support and guidance from the Instructional Technology Team.


Essential Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop lesson plans and deliver instruction based on the district-approved computer lab curriculum aligned to state standards for K-5 students.
  • Follow the district instructional pacing calendar to ensure consistent and effective curriculum delivery.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and functional computer lab environment.
  • Create and update engaging computer lab displays, bulletin boards, and exhibits.
  • Initiate and maintain effective communication with the building principal and staff, other CLPs, the Technology Department, and Data-Driven Response/Instructional Technology teams.
  • Oversee student device distribution at the start of the school year, device collection at the conclusion of the school year, and troubleshooting support for student devices throughout the school year.
  • Act as a liaison to the Building Field Technician and the Technology Department to manage device inventory and damaged devices that require additional repair/replacement.
  • Collaborate regularly with building principal, other CLPs, the Technology Department, and Data-Driven Response/Instructional Technology teams.
  • Other duties as assigned by the building administrator.


Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Computer systems, software, networks, and common educational technology tools, including keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and internet research.
  • Basic instructional practices and classroom management techniques appropriate for elementary-aged students.
  • District-approved computer lab curriculum and integration of technology aligned to state standards.
  • Basic troubleshooting techniques for student devices, software and network access.
  • Inventory control and device management practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents in both verbal and written English.
  • Basic proficiency in math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Applicable District policies and procedures, including student privacy and acceptable use of technology.


Ability to:

  • Build positive and cooperative relationships with students, staff, and community members.
  • Utilize effective organizational strategies to manage classroom resources, student data, and device inventory efficiently.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, ensuring clear and timely interactions with students, staff, parents, and district teams.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Participate actively in professional growth opportunities and staff meetings as directed.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and professionalism.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and district policies.
  • Uphold the district’s mission, beliefs, and strategic objectives.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain regular attendance and adhere to the prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities.


Qualifications

Any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Additionally, must have 2 years of college credits or have a college degree or pass the ParaPro Praxis Assessment with a score of 457 or higher or pass the Idaho Paraprofessional Testing Alternative with a score of 75% or higher.
  • Advanced technical or college-level coursework in computer science or related fields is preferred.
  • Classroom or instructional experience is preferred.
  • Valid Idaho driver’s license and reliable transportation for job-related activities.


Essential Physical Abilities

  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, communicate effectively in person and on the telephone, and interact with students and staff in a classroom environment.
  • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written instructions and to prepare, review, and monitor digital and printed materials, student work, and computer screens.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate computers, peripherals, instructional technology, and standard office equipment.
  • Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to move about the classroom and building, assist students at workstations, bend or reach to connect equipment, and lift and transport technology or supplies weighing up to approximately 25 pounds.
