What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Public Outreach Assistant position at Wesleyan University?
The Wesleyan Department of Astronomy seeks to hire a Temporary Public Outreach Assistant to assist with events, social media, and some research.
Responsibilities include:
Provide content and logistical support for our open-to-the-public nights, including Space Nights and Kid’s Night. This may include opening and operating the telescope and doing projects with K-6 grade children during Kid’s Night.
Observe on the 24-inch telescope and collect data for faculty and student research.
Perform research in support of faculty.
Post to social media accounts.
Other duties as assigned.
This is an on campus position working up to 10hrs per week through May 31, 2026.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have knowledge of the fundamentals of astronomy.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional weekend shifts for special events.
