What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Team Member - AmeriCorps position at Wesley-Rankin Community Center?
In collaboration with their West Dallas neighbors, Wesley Rankin Community Center identifies and bridges gaps in education, health and skills development by providing multigenerational programs that empower families to access their full potential. In the afterschool program, the Afterschool AmeriCorps Team Member will specifically serve to bridge gaps in education, build relationships, and provide students with new experiences and opportunities to grow and develop their identity.
The AmeriCorps Summer Team Member is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy classroom environment, ensuring curriculum is implemented with fidelity and leading classes and engaging activities for all students. This staff member, due to their experience in education, works collaboratively with other support staff in the classroom but is ultimately responsible for the classroom safety, classroom culture, parent conversations and goals of Wesley-Rankin programming.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee a classroom of students; provide oversight, classroom management, and discipline as necessary.
- Plan and implement enrichment activities in math, science, art, characters and stories, reading and social emotional learning.
- Assist with enrichment help.
- Lead daily class activities (examples include art, science, games).
- Oversee and interact with classroom volunteers in a professional manner.
- Track student attendance daily. Assist with other data tracking as needed.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and professional development.
- Ensure classroom spaces are neat and organized. Ensure cleaning assignments are completed at the end of each day
Reports To: Immediate supervisor is Jackie Arellano, Director of Children’s and Youth Education, Wesley-Rankin Community Center and back up supervisors are Nancy Zamudio, Youth Coordinator.
Service Hours:
Members serve during Wesley-Rankin Community Center program hours, defined as Monday to Thursday from 8:00 am – 4:00pm and Fridays from 9:00 pm – 12:00 pm for a total of 35 hrs.
This location requires a total service commitment of 300 hours.
Benefits include
Living Allowance of $3,000.00; paid out biweekly ($600.00) Education Award of $1,565.08; earned at the end of term. 20 hours a week

Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week
