Job Summary
A Cost Estimator/Project Manager specializing in welded assemblies and fabricated components is responsible for analyzing technical drawings, blueprints, and customer specifications to prepare accurate and timely cost estimates. This role involves collaborating with engineering, production, and sales teams to gather necessary inputs, calculating material, labor, and overhead costs using internal data and supplier quotes, and maintaining and updating pricing databases and estimation templates. Additionally, the estimator/project manager identifies cost-saving opportunities and recommends process improvements to enhance efficiency and profitability. You will work in conjunction within the shop to help support seamless communication, production guidelines/expectations and follow up to ensure processes are meeting timelines and quality standards for our customers.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates for welded assemblies and fabricated components
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and customer specifications
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and sales teams to gather necessary inputs
- Calculate material, labor, and overhead costs using internal data and supplier quotes
- Maintain and update pricing databases and estimation templates
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend process improvements
- Communicate expectations/timelines around each project
- You are the Liaison with the customer and ensuring we are meeting their quality standards and the shop team so we are on top of changes and timelines
Requirements
- 3 years of experience in estimating for metal fabrication or welding-intensive manufacturing
- Strong understanding of welding processes, materials, and fabrication techniques
- Proficiency in Excel and estimating software (e.g., JobBOSS, QuickBooks, or similar)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD files
- Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field preferred
- Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems
- Knowledge of local and regional material suppliers
