Essential Functions
Obtains, prepares, and preserves specimens for laboratory testing.
Performs bedside and point-of-care laboratory testing.
Observes, reports, and records patient responses to care.
Identifies and reports deviations in vital signs, patient observations, and patient needs to the Registered Nurse.
Passes, collects, and checks food trays.
Assists patients with bedpans, urinals, and commodes.
Assists with the care and management of external devices exiting the body.
Measures and records intake and output.
Assists with colostomy care.
Assists patients with transfers and the appropriate use of assistive devices.
Assists with ambulation to promote and maintain mobility and functional independence.
Assists patients with dressing and undressing.
Provides bed rest care.
Assists patients with bathing.
Assists with oral hygiene and promotes oral health.
Provides reassurance and support to reduce patient anxiety.
Facilitates appropriate visits from family members and friends.
Responds promptly to call bells and reports patient needs as appropriate.
Provides orientation to the patient’s room and unit.
Assists patients with communication needs, including use of the nursing call system and telephone.
Provides appropriate diversional activities.
Provides comfort measures, such as back rubs, music, and reading materials.
Maintains the patient’s environment to promote safety, comfort, and well-being.
Makes and changes patient beds as needed.
Cleans and maintains patient care equipment.
Follows transmission-based precautions.
Follows oxygen safety precautions.
Provides emergency care and life-saving measures in life-threatening situations as trained and directed.
Maintains suicide precautions.
Maintains seizure precautions.
Assists the Registered Nurse with the patient discharge process.
Assists with the orientation of new or transferred employees.

Minimum Required:

- Three months of LNA experience, preferably in an acute care setting
Minimum Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of an approved nursing assistant program
Required:
- Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA)
- American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
