Job Description: Maintenance Tech
Position Title: Maintenance Tech
Reports To: Director of Operations / District Manager
Position Overview:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring that all restaurant equipment, systems, and facilities are in excellent working condition. This includes conducting regular maintenance, troubleshooting issues, performing repairs, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the restaurant operates smoothly, minimizing downtime, and maintaining a safe and functional work environment for staff and customers. This position requires strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Preventative Maintenance:
Conduct regular preventive maintenance checks on kitchen equipment, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, and other critical infrastructure.
Create and maintain a schedule for routine inspections and maintenance of restaurant equipment and facilities.
Perform necessary tasks such as lubricating machinery, cleaning filters, and calibrating temperature controls to extend the lifespan of equipment and reduce downtime.
Monitor the condition of equipment and report any potential issues before they become major problems.
Repairs & Troubleshooting:
Quickly diagnose and repair malfunctioning kitchen equipment, appliances, lighting, plumbing, and other systems to ensure minimal disruption to restaurant operations.
Troubleshoot electrical, plumbing, and mechanical issues as they arise, using specialized tools and knowledge of systems.
Respond promptly to emergency repair requests and manage downtime effectively.
Coordinate with vendors or service professionals when specialized repairs are needed, ensuring they are completed in a timely manner.
Facility Maintenance:
Ensure the restaurant’s physical environment is well-maintained, including repairing or replacing broken fixtures, doors, windows, flooring, and other structural components.
Perform light carpentry, painting, and general repairs to keep the facility in top condition.
Ensure all areas, including the kitchen, dining room, restrooms, and exterior, are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
Safety Compliance:
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to safety, health, and sanitation.
Conduct regular safety inspections and address potential hazards to maintain a safe working environment for staff and customers.
Follow proper procedures for handling hazardous materials, including cleaning agents and chemicals, in accordance with safety guidelines.
Maintain safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, exit signs, and emergency lighting, and ensure they are operational.
Inventory & Supply Management:
Keep track of maintenance supplies and equipment inventory, ensuring that all necessary tools, parts, and materials are readily available.
Order replacement parts or equipment as necessary and ensure the restaurant maintains adequate stock levels to handle repairs.
Maintain a record of maintenance activities, repairs, and replacements for future reference and compliance purposes.
Coordination & Communication:
Communicate regularly with restaurant management to understand the status of equipment and facilities and to prioritize maintenance tasks.
Work collaboratively with restaurant staff to ensure the equipment is functioning properly and that any issues are addressed quickly.
Provide updates on maintenance progress, any delays in repairs, and expected completion times.
Other Duties:
Assist with special projects, such as renovations, upgrades, or installations as needed.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to Fazoli’s cleanliness and safety standards.
Skills & Qualifications:
Experience: Previous experience in restaurant maintenance, facilities management, or a similar technical role is preferred. Knowledge of restaurant equipment, including ovens, fryers, dishwashers, refrigeration, HVAC systems, and plumbing is highly beneficial.
Technical Skills: Strong troubleshooting and repair skills in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly identify problems and apply appropriate solutions to keep equipment and systems running efficiently.
Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail, particularly when conducting inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance tasks.
Communication: Good communication skills to interact effectively with restaurant management and staff, and to report on maintenance issues.
Organization: Ability to stay organized and manage multiple tasks, including tracking maintenance schedules and inventory.
Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and move equipment or supplies, as well as stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods during repairs.
Job Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods (4-8 hours) with periodic breaks.
Perform repetitive motions, including frequent use of hands and arms for tasks such as chopping, stirring, carrying, and operating equipment.
Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, stretching, twisting, and reaching above eye level.
Capability to walk up and down stairs and use a step ladder as needed.
Occasional sitting, talking, and active listening as required by the role.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., including food supplies, dishware, and equipment. Carts are available to aid in moving items when needed.
Ability to move around the kitchen quickly and efficiently.
Compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
Work Environment/ Job Conditions:
