What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll & Benefits Clerk position at Wendy's Wen-Gap?
Payroll & Benefits Clerk
WenGAP is a Wendy's franchise organization operating 38 restaurants across Virginia. We are hiring a Payroll & Benefits Clerk to join our corporate office team. This role owns the bi-weekly payroll cycle from the office side and keeps our benefits enrollment and deduction records accurate for a workforce of restaurant crew, managers, and salaried staff.
This is a detail-driven, deadline-driven desk. Payroll closes on the same day every other week and does not wait. If you are the kind of person who works from a checklist, notices when a number doesn't tie out, and follows up until you get an answer, you will do well here.
What you'll do
- Process the bi-weekly payroll cycle from close through final adjustments, resolving time and pay exceptions before the processing deadline
- Review timekeeping data for accuracy (overtime, missed punches, PTO, and terminations) and work with District Managers to correct issues before the file locks
- Administer benefits enrollment and eligibility, including new-hire enrollment windows, waiver tracking, and 401(k) participant records
- Reconcile carrier and vendor invoices against payroll deductions, and verify deduction codes and amounts each cycle
- Run and distribute recurring payroll and employee reports to leadership and field management
- Complete required government and compliance reporting on schedule
- Manage the office and accounts-payable inboxes, returning calls and closing out open items daily
What we're looking for
- 2 years of payroll, benefits administration, bookkeeping, or high-volume administrative experience (multi-location or hourly workforce experience is a strong plus)
- Comfortable in Excel or Google Sheets: sorting, filtering, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and reconciling two reports against each other
- Experience with a payroll or HRIS platform (UKG/UltiPro, Paylocity, ADP, Paycom, or similar)
- Strong written communication. A large share of this job is clear, professional follow-up email with restaurant managers and vendors
- Proven ability to hold a recurring deadline without being reminded
- Discretion with confidential employee, pay, and benefits information
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or payroll coursework (FPC/CPP) preferred
Nice to have
- Restaurant, retail, hospitality, or other multi-unit hourly payroll background
- Familiarity with restaurant back-office systems, benefits enrollment platforms, or paycard programs
- Bilingual English/Spanish
Benefits
- 401(k) matching
- Dental insurance
- Health insurance
- Paid time off
- Paid training
- Vision insurance
