Description

Essential Functions
  • Provide compassionate care to animals, ensuring their welfare and well-being.
  • Assist Veterinarians and Vet Techs by anticipating needs during exams, surgeries, and treatments to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Prepare animals, equipment, and sterile fields for surgery; monitor anesthesia; assist during and after procedures to ensure proper recovery.
  • Support veterinary examinations by preparing supplies, safely restraining animals, and performing or assisting with diagnostic testing and treatments (e.g., injections, bandaging, vaccination, microchipping, grooming, and suture removal)
  • Collect and process laboratory samples (blood, urine, etc.); perform in-house tests under supervision and record results accurately.
  • Administer and dispense medications under veterinarian supervision; fill prescriptions and maintain accurate medication records.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of clinic, surgical, and kennel areas; prepare and sterilize surgical packs.
  • Manage inventory and storage of veterinary supplies and medications, ensuring proper rotation and disposal of expired items.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties including maintaining records, processing shipments, and assisting with patient discharge instructions and follow-up care.
  • Represent the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society professionally by providing courteous service to the public and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Minimum qualifications:
    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Proficiency with computer software such as MS Word, MS Excel and general office equipment.
    • Basic math skills.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Sterile procedures and bloodborne pathogen safety.
    • Animal husbandry and care practices.
    • Customer service principles and techniques
  • Skills and abilities:
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and technical skills.
    • Ability to work with a culturally diverse staff and community.
    • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
    • Ability to work under pressure and stay calm in stressful situations.

Preferences
  • Experience working in a veterinary hospital and/or animal shelter experience.
  • Experience with shelter database software (such as PetPoint) and other office equipment.
  • Experience handling animals safely and humanely.

Other Requirements
  • Washington State Department of Health Veterinary Medication Clerk credentials (or obtain within 6 months of employment).
  • Must pass a drug screening.

  • Talking and hearing; standing, walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reaching with hands and arms (C)
  • Lifting up to 50LBS without assistance and up to 100LBS with assistance (F).
  • Safely handling all types of animals (C).
  • Performing duties that involve restraining and handling animals of various sizes and temperaments (F).
  • Exposure to loud noise levels, unpleasant odors, allergens, and cleaning chemicals (F).
  • Exposure to animal waste and bodily fluids (O)
  • Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases (C)
  • Potential animal bites or scratches (S)

$18.25 - $19.25 per hour
