JOB SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVE
The Universal Banker I is a versatile customer service role that combines the responsibilities of a Teller and a Customer Service Representative (CSR). This position is designed to assist customers with a wide range of banking services, ensuring their needs are met efficiently and professionally. The Universal Banker I will handle both transactional duties at the Teller window and assist with account-related inquiries, product offerings, and account maintenance. The position requires flexibility, adaptability, and strong customer service skills to support branch operations and enhance the customer experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This position performs the following duties, including but not limited to:
As a Teller:
- Process customer transactions such as deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, and payments accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain a balanced cash drawer and ensure all transactions are completed in compliance with bank policies.
- Handle money transfers, wire transfers, and other routine banking services.
- Assist customers in-person, ensuring prompt and courteous service.
- Identify opportunities to refer customers to additional banking services and products as appropriate.
As a Customer Service Representative (CSR):
- Greet and assist customers with general account inquiries, including balance checks, transaction history, and account status.
- Open new customer accounts, including checking, savings, and other banking products, and provide information on account features.
- Assist customers with account maintenance tasks such as address changes, card replacements, and online banking setup.
- Resolve customer concerns and escalate issues to higher management when needed.
- Cross-sell bank products and services that align with customer needs, such as loans, credit cards, or savings programs.
Utilization and Flexibility:
- Adapt to customer traffic flow by switching between Teller and CSR duties as needed to maintain branch efficiency.
- Assist in managing customer wait times by providing assistance where demand is highest, ensuring both Teller and CSR roles are covered during peak periods.
- Help ensure smooth daily branch operations by providing coverage for both routine transactions and customer account services as necessary.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Six months to one year experience in a financial institution preferred.
- Above average ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
- Strong numerical and cash-handling skills with attention to detail.
- Good oral and written communication skills in order to effectively communicate with customers and third parties about the bank’s products and policies.
- Good understanding of financial institution products and services.
- Ability to read and comprehend training materials, bank communications and related loan manuals.
- Ability to learn and follow bank policies regarding the lending process.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other common PC-based software.
