Wellspring is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to serving seniors, families, and children throughout Michigan. We are currently seeking a Family Preservation Worker to join our Families First Program, supporting families throughout the Upper Peninsula, including Chippewa, Luce, Mackinac, Schoolcraft and Alger Counties.
In this role, you will provide home-based, family-centered services designed to help families remain together and ensure children’s safety, stability, and long-term well-being. You will use a strength-based, non-deficit approach to empower families, build skills, and connect them with vital community resources.
Responsibilities
As a Family Preservation Worker with Wellspring – Families First, you will:
- Adhere to the Families First model of service (strength-based, non-deficit approach).
- Provide families with concrete services, including assistance with housing, transportation, home cleaning, maintenance and repair.
- Deliver skills training in areas such as parenting, communication, self-advocacy, and self-sufficiency.
- Offer short-term counseling and crisis intervention to support family stability.
- Coordinate with external providers to arrange counseling, medical care, educational support, housing resources, utility assistance and additional community supports.
- Prepare timely documentation, including service plans, progress reports, termination summaries, goal sheets, weekly plans, and time reports.
- Present cases for termination conferences and recommend appropriate follow-up services.
- Maintain face-to-face contact with families in accordance with contract requirements and individual family needs.
- Maintain weekly contact with referring workers and complete follow-up evaluations at 3, 6 and 12 months post-service.
- Transport clients in your own vehicle as needed.
- Provide 24-hour availability and maintain a flexible work schedule based on family needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or a human services–related field required.
- Experience working with children and families preferred.
- Reliable, compassionate, and committed to providing high-quality services.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Current driver’s license, vehicle registration and auto insurance required.
Schedule and Compensation
- Hybrid-Remote position – home-based with travel throughout Chippewa, Luce, Mackinac, Schoolcraft and Alger counties.
- Flexible schedule with 24-hour availability as needed.
- Team meetings and supervision held 1–2 times per week.
- Salary: $43,000/year, based on experience and education.
- Mileage reimbursement for work-related travel.
