Medical assistants work alongside providers and nurses in outpatient facilities and are cross trained to perform administrative and clinical duties! Medical assistants are in demand! The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics has identified medical assisting as one of the nation’s careers growing much faster than average.
Below is a general overview of duties performed by medical assistants:
Clinical Duties:
- Obtain patient’s medical history
- Preparing patients for examinations
- Assisting providers during examinations
- Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
- Performing basic laboratory tests
- Preparing and administering medications as directed by provider
Phlebotomy:
- Performing electrocardiograms
- Wound care and changing dressings
- Administrative Duties
- Answering telephone
- Welcoming patients
- Updating electronic medical record
- Scheduling appointments

Education and Skill Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be a current WellSpan employee for at least 90-days and in good standing
