About the Role
Are you passionate about preventative wellness and social-emotional support for students? Wellness Together is seeking a dedicated Certified Wellness Coach (CWC) to be an integral part of a tiered mental health support system. As an extension of the school's mental health specialist, you will provide direct support, focusing on wellness education, skill-building, and proactive support for students not in active crisis. This role is key to ensuring students receive timely and appropriate guidance to enhance their overall school success.
Key Responsibilities
As a Certified Wellness Coach, you will focus on low-intensity interventions (Tier 1 and Tier 2 support) across several vital areas:
- Direct Student Support:
- Deliver social-emotional and behavioral support services through brief wellness check-ins, individual coaching, facilitate small groups, and immediate de-escalation for students experiencing emotional distress.
- Case Management & Referrals:
- Manage a student caseload, providing necessary interventions, making referrals to other mental health supports when appropriate, and maintaining clear, accurate documentation of all interactions.
- Family & Staff Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with school staff to coordinate comprehensive student care, engage families and provide them with community resources, attend relevant student meetings (e.g., SSTs, 504s), and offer bilingual support/translation as needed.
What You'll Need (Qualifications)
- Education: Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field.
- Certification: Must have an active certification as a California Certified Wellness Coach.
- Experience:
- 2 years of experience working in a school, health, or community setting, preferably with children and adolescents ages 5-18.
- Experience working with students, families, and community health/social service agencies.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and behavioral health issues.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to establish positive, trusting rapport and maintain appropriate boundaries with students.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Proficient in English (required); Fluent in a second language (preferred).
