Wellness Equity Alliance (WEA) Is a Novel National Public Health Organization Comprised Of a Multidisciplinary Team Of Population And Public Health Experts With Backgrounds In Infectious Disease, Public Health, Emergency Medicine, Primary Care, Cardiology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Community Health Work (CHW), Nursing And Advanced Practice Pharmacy. We Work Nearly Exclusively With Underrepresented Communities, Fundamentally Addressing Health-care Disparities And The Social Determinants Of Health (SDoH) That Have Been Amplified During The COVID-19 Pandemic, Prioritizing The Following

  • People experiencing homelessness
  • Indigenous communities
  • Immigrant communities
  • Rural communities
  • BIPoC communities
  • LGBTQIA communities
  • Justice-impacted communities

The WEA team is diverse, inclusive, and nimble enough to assemble teams of healthcare professionals within days using our proven local staff recruitment models to address population health crises and communicable disease outbreaks. The WEA team’s partnership model is collaborative and allows hospitals, health jurisdictions, state/local government agencies to provide timely care using equity-based strategies for individuals and marginalized communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Duties:
    • Assist healthcare providers in conducting patient examinations, and treatments.
    • Administer approved medications and vaccinations as directed by healthcare providers.
    • Perform routine procedures such as taking vital signs, collecting specimens, and dressing wounds.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical histories and treatment plans.
    • Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and maintain a clean and organized clinical environment.
    • Provide patient education on various healthcare topics, including medication management, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices.
    • Perform front office duties including appointment scheduling, appointment reminder calls, patient registration, insurance verification and medical record management
    • Provide referrals both internally and externally to appropriate medical resources.
    • Ensure exam rooms, equipment and supplies are clean and ready for patients
    • Manage supplies and inventory
    • Perform laboratory tests and collect specimens as ordered by physician
    • Assist in prescription management including prescription refills and calling in prescriptions to the pharmacy
    • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
    • Manage patient flow and communicate delays to patients and physician
    • Participate in street outreach efforts to provide medical care to individuals experiencing or living in underserved communities.
    • Conduct health assessments and screenings in non-traditional settings on the School RIg.
    • Administer basic medical treatments and first aid to address immediate healthcare needs.
    • Collaborate with social workers, case managers, and community organizations to connect patients with additional support services such as housing assistance, substance abuse treatment, and mental health counseling.
    • Advocate for the healthcare needs of marginalized populations and work to address systemic barriers to accessing care.
    • Attend scheduled meetings
    • Drive and assist with rig maintenance, including set up and take down each day.
    • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Provide guidance and mentorship to medical assistant staff, including training on clinical procedures, best practices, and patient interaction.
    • Coordinate schedules and assignments for medical assistant team members, ensuring adequate coverage for clinical and street medicine activities.
    • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that prioritizes teamwork, professionalism, and patient-centered care.
    • Serve as a liaison between medical assistants and healthcare providers, facilitating communication and problem-solving to ensure efficient patient care delivery.
    • Training new staff members on Athena functionalities, troubleshooting technical issues, and implementing workflow enhancements to improve efficiency and patient care delivery.
    • Manage time effectively and be highly organized in order to handle various tasks and responsibilities. This includes prioritizing tasks, maintaining accurate and organized records, and meeting deadlines.
    • Sharing in driving, ,setting up, and maintenance of the School rig.
    • Working with Bern Co. on maintenance issue or routine care of the school rig.
    • Building and maintaining relationships with the school staff and parents.

  • Excellent assessment skills required. Ability to problem-solve and to prioritize changing patient conditions required. Knowledge of efficient interviewing practices and techniques used to gather information
  • Exemplary customer service experience including client relationships and job knowledge
  • Knowledge of quality control
  • Spanish speaking (preferred)

Qualifications And Education Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential required.
  • Minimum of [2] years of experience working as a medical assistant in a clinical setting
  • Experience working in primary care required
  • Experience working in public health and infectious disease (eg HIV) preferred
  • Valid BLS certification
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and preventative measures (HIPAA confidentiality, infection spread, etc.)
  • Demonstrated phlebotomy skills are required.
