We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Construction Buyer – Purchasing Agent / Estimator to join our team. This position plays a critical role in supporting our project managers and field operations by ensuring accurate estimating, timely material procurement, and cost control across multiple projects.
Job Summary:
The Construction Buyer – Purchasing Agent / Estimator is responsible for preparing electrical estimates, sourcing, and purchasing materials, negotiating with vendors, and supporting project execution from pre-construction through closeout. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of electrical systems, materials, and pricing, along with excellent organizational and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed and accurate electrical estimates for commercial and/or industrial projects.
- Perform quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications.
- Solicit and analyze vendor and subcontractor pricing.
- Assist with bid preparation and value engineering.
- Procure electrical materials and equipment in accordance with project schedules.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery with suppliers and manufacturers.
- Issue purchase orders and track deliveries to ensure on-time availability.
- Monitor material costs and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and accounting staff.
- Maintain organized records of quotes, purchase orders, and pricing history.
- Assist with change orders and cost tracking as needed.
- Develop and maintain supplier relationships.
Qualifications
- 3 years of experience in electrical estimating, purchasing, or project support.
- Strong knowledge of electrical materials, equipment, and installation methods
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency with estimating software, ERP Systems, spreadsheets, and procurement systems
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Preferred:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field OR equal professional experience.
- Experience with commercial project bidding.
