Mental Health Tech - nights

Wellfound is hiring full time Mental Health Techs for our Nights position. The position is a .9 FTE, 3x12 hour shifts per week with rotating weekends from 7 pm - -7:30 pm. Must be able to work all days of the week.

Wellfound Behavioral Health Hospital is a 120-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital located in Tacoma, Washington. We are Department of Health and Joint Commission accredited. We are an acute care psychiatric hospital providing care to both voluntary and involuntary patients.

Position information:

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) functions as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary treatment team responsible for providing a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for psychiatric patients and assist with the provision of basic patient care and recovery needs under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The MHT provides and documents interventions in a variety of modalities individually matched to the needs of each patient. The incumbent provides group as well as individual interaction with patients receiving inpatient psychiatric treatment in adherence with established treatment guidelines and agency policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

• Follow direction and assignments of the registered nurse
• Perform patient checks, CO / SP rounds (all shifts), 1:1 etc
• Taking vital signs and entering into computer (all shifts)
• Conduct patient safety searches (per routine and prn)
• Monitor Meals (all shifts) and collect silverware
• Assist with patient hygiene (all shifts) when required
• Temperature log checks for patient and staff refrigerators
• Clean washer, dryer, phones and tables (nigh tech)
• Update SBAR
• Checks security of doors to offices, seclusion room and closest are locked (night tech)
• Dryer screen is checked and lint removed (night tech)- washer/dryer log maintained
• All sharp items used at shower time are checked back in
• Able to communicate respectfully with patients and family members, utilizes motivational interviewing
• Respect all diversity including cultural
• Provides supportive interactions per patient needs
• Notifies nurse of any change in patient presentation, behavior or condition

• Hourly: NAR license $20.91-$38.77 depending on experience – union position
• Hourly: CNA license $21.93- $40.66 depending on experience – union position

  • You will accrue Paid Sick and Safe Leave at 1 hour per 40 hours worked. Paid Sick leave cannot be used until 90 days after your hire date.
  • Paid Time Off will be accrued based on hours worked and tenure. You will accrue 0.12 hours of PTO per hours worked until you reach the next level of accrual. PTO cannot be used until 90 days after your hire date with the exception of designated Wellfound holidays.
• $2500 sign on bonus - 1st payment after meeting 90 day intro period and 2nd payment at 6 month with one year agreement.

What We Require:

Education:

• High school or equivalent

Certification/License:

• Registered Nursing Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant – must have active to apply
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Food Handler’s Permit through Washington State
• Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor

Work Experience:

• One (1) year of direct patient care experience in mental health

Must be able to pass drug screen and background check. We are a drug free organization.
