Wellesley Family care is a thriving primary care practice based in Needham, Massachusetts. We are a private (independent) practice affiliated with Mass General Brigham with a focus on individualized evidence-based care for the whole family. We also highly value teamwork and collaboration and have built a team culture of safety, competence, and fun. We currently have twenty-two primary care providers on our team and have a strong growth trajectory into new business and practice initiatives. We are looking for a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our practice.


Position Summary

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will provide psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, medication management, and behavioral health consultation within a busy family medicine practice. Working closely with primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, care managers, and support staff, the PMHNP will play a key role in developing an integrated behavioral health program that improves access to mental health services and enhances patient outcomes.


This position offers a unique opportunity to help shape behavioral health services within a well-established practice while benefiting from a strong referral base and collaborative care environment.


Key Responsibilities


Direct Patient Care:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults.
  • Diagnose and treat a broad range of psychiatric and behavioral health conditions, including:
  • Depression
  • Anxiety disorders
  • ADHD
  • Bipolar disorder
  • PTSD
  • Adjustment disorders
  • Substance use disorders
  • Sleep disorders
  • Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based approaches.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications.
  • Monitor treatment effectiveness and medication compliance.
  • Provide brief therapeutic interventions and behavioral health counseling as appropriate.
  • Assess and manage psychiatric crises, including suicide risk assessments and safety planning.

Integrated Care & Collaboration:

  • Serve as a behavioral health resource for primary care providers.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians and advanced practice providers to support patients with coexisting medical and mental health conditions.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and case reviews.
  • Facilitate referrals to therapists, specialty psychiatry, community agencies, and higher levels of care when needed.
  • Assist in developing behavioral health workflows and best practices within the practice.

Program Development:

  • Help establish and grow WFCA's integrated behavioral health services.
  • Contribute to the development of screening, referral, and treatment protocols.
  • Support population health initiatives related to behavioral health.
  • Participate in quality improvement efforts and outcome measurement.

Requirements:

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's or Doctoral Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Current Massachusetts RN and APRN licensure.
  • Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
  • DEA Registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration.
  • Strong diagnostic, clinical assessment, and psychopharmacology skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Preferred:

  • Experience in primary care, family medicine, integrated behavioral health, or outpatient psychiatry.
  • Experience treating patients across the lifespan.
  • Familiarity with collaborative care models.
  • Experience working with electronic health records (eClinicalWorks, Epic, or similar platforms).

Salary : $180,000 - $240,000
