Logistics Coordinator – Automotive Manufacturing
Reports To: Supply Chain Manager
Position Summary
Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Logistics Coordinator is responsible for managing material flow, inventory accuracy, cycle counting, shipping and receiving activities, and warehouse operations to support automotive manufacturing production schedules. This role ensures materials are received, stored, tracked, and delivered efficiently while maintaining compliance with safety, quality, inventory control, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Logistics & Material Handling
- Operate forklifts, cranes, and company vehicles to safely load, unload, transport, and store materials.
- Verify incoming shipments for quantity, quality, and accuracy against purchase orders and shipping documentation.
- Pick, stage, and deliver materials to support production schedules and customer requirements.
- Coordinate shipping and receiving activities to ensure uninterrupted material flow.
- Document and report damaged, lost, or non-conforming materials.
Inventory Control & Cycle Counting
- Manage inventory by identifying, labeling, cataloging, and recording material locations.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cycle counts to maintain inventory accuracy and support inventory control objectives.
- Participate in physical inventory and inventory audits.
- Investigate inventory variances, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate material shortages, excess inventory, or obsolescence risks.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and transaction history within ERP systems.
ERP/MRP & Warehouse Systems
- Utilize ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, or similar platforms to process inventory and material transactions.
- Support Material Requirements Planning (MRP) activities by reviewing replenishment recommendations and monitoring material availability.
- Maintain accurate master data, inventory records, and order status information.
- Understand and utilize Bills of Materials (BOMs), production orders, and manufacturing workflows.
- Use PDA scanners, barcode systems, and warehouse management tools for inventory transactions and material movements.
Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Follow all company safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
- Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance of forklifts, cranes, and material handling equipment.
- Support 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve warehouse efficiency and inventory accuracy.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required, Associate Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of logistics, inventory control, warehouse, or material handling experience, preferably in an automotive manufacturing environment.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems and MRP concepts.
- Experience with inventory management, cycle counting, barcode scanning systems, and warehouse operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in automotive OEM, Tier 1, or Tier 2 manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of Just-in-Time (JIT), Kanban, Lean Manufacturing, and IATF 16949 quality standards.
