About Us

Well Traveled Living is a Florida-based importer and distributor of outdoor living products sold under multiple branded lines. We sell through 40 retail accounts spanning big-box home improvement, mass merchants, club stores, and major e-commerce platforms, with products sourced primarily from Asia.

The Role

We’re looking for a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting function across multiple related entities. You’ll supervise a three-person team that handles daily transaction processing — customer payments, vendor bills, returns, AR collections, sales tax filings, bank reconciliations, and payroll entry — while you own everything above that: the close process, consolidated financial reporting, cash management, banking and lender relationships, year-end coordination with our outside CPA, and financial analysis for the CEO.

This is a working leadership role in a lean environment. You’ll report directly to the CEO and have full ownership of the finance function.

What You’ll Own

Team Leadership

•       Supervise, develop, and coordinate the work of three accounting staff members who handle day-to-day AR, AP, order posting, customer/vendor setup, returns processing, and collections.

•       Manage workload distribution, cross-training, and performance across the team.

•       Serve as the escalation point for EDI issues, GP system problems, pricing discrepancies, and transaction exceptions.

•       Ensure adequate coverage and documentation of all recurring accounting processes.

Month-End, Quarter-End & Year-End Close

•       Own the full close process across all entities — preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and adjusting entries.

•       Prepare consolidated financial statements across the parent company and related entities.

•       Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, and intercompany entries.

•       Coordinate year-end deliverables for the outside CPA firm, including work papers, schedules, and support for reviewed financial statements and tax return preparation.

Cash Management & Banking

•       Manage daily cash flow and liquidity across all entities, ensuring sufficient funds for operations, payroll, inventory purchases, and vendor obligations.

•       Initiate and oversee international wire transfers to overseas suppliers for inventory purchases.

•       Prepare and submit bank reporting packages, borrowing base certificates, and covenant compliance documentation.

•       Maintain banking relationships and serve as the primary contact for lenders.

•       Oversee the team’s weekly ACH and online vendor payment scheduling for accuracy and proper authorization.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

•       Produce monthly internal financial statements and management reports for the CEO.

•       Provide ad hoc analysis on product margins, channel profitability, sales returns, and customer-level P&L.

•       Prepare consolidated year-end financial statements for external CPA review and tax return preparation.

•       Coordinate with the outside CPA on federal and state income tax filings, estimated payments, and tax planning.

Payroll, Tax & Compliance

•       Oversee payroll processing and ensure accurate recording of payroll liabilities and expenses.

•       Review and oversee monthly sales tax filings across all entities (currently Florida).

•       Manage 401(k) plan administration and coordinate Form 5500 filing.

•       Prepare year-end 1099 reporting.

•       Monitor sales tax nexus as the company expands into additional states.

Vendor & Inventory Financial Oversight

•       Provide financial oversight of international inventory purchasing — purchase orders, landed cost tracking, and payment scheduling.

•       Review and resolve vendor claims, short shipments, damaged goods, and receiving discrepancies.

•       Ensure cost integrity and accurate item records within Microsoft Dynamics GP.

Internal Controls, Insurance & Risk

•       Maintain and strengthen internal controls across accounting, cash handling, disbursements, and payroll.

•       Manage the company’s insurance program, including annual renewals for property, general liability, product liability, and workers’ compensation.

•       Coordinate certificates of insurance for customer requirements.

•       Support audit, review, and lender due diligence requests.

What We’re Looking For

Must Have

•       Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance.

•       7 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3 years managing a small team.

•       Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge and hands-on experience with full-cycle month-end and year-end close.

•       Multi-entity accounting experience — you’ll manage the books across several related companies.

•       Cash flow management and lender/bank reporting experience.

•       Proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) and advanced Excel skills.

•       Hands-on mentality — you’ll be in the details daily, not just reviewing the team’s work.

Strong Preference For

•       CPA (active or inactive).

•       Wholesale distribution, import/export, or consumer products background.

•       Bilingual English/Mandarin — we source products from Asia and work closely with overseas vendors and partners.

•       International trade familiarity — tariffs, HTS classifications, landed cost.

•       Multi-state sales tax compliance experience.

•       Experience with major retail accounts (big-box, e-commerce, club stores).

•       Familiarity with EDI order processing and troubleshooting.
