What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Tech - 1st Shift position at Welcome to Steel Technologies?
As a Maintenance Technician at Steel Technologies, your main responsibility is to continue to improve our safety, quality, and efficiency. How? By performing preventative, routine, and emergency mechanical and/or electrical maintenance and providing effective troubleshooting, you are a huge part in ensuring operations is running effectively at all times.
How you’ll contribute to our company:
Preventative Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance on all plant machinery
- Carry out the preventative maintenance program for the plant
- Ability to accept and control maintenance operations and communicate non-compliance problems to the supervisor for instruction
- Identify and address safety concerns throughout the facility
- Maintain general housekeeping and organization of the maintenance department and all equipment repair work areas
Minimize Downtime
- Continuously review the operation of plant equipment and systems
- Anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner
- Identify opportunities for improvement
Effective Troubleshooting
- Must have knowledge and ability to troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic repairs through a quick and effective root cause analogy
- Ability to accurately fill out documentation on work orders
- Ability to perform emergency maintenance repairs to all plant machinery
Knowledge & Understanding
- Knowledge of motor control systems, hydraulic systems, fire protection, and mechanical bearing systems
- Knowledge of equipment installation
- Ability to interpret blueprints to fabricate parts and equipment properly

Here’s what is needed to be successful:
- Ability to correctly retrieve and input data in a computer using Excel and CMMS System
- Ability to successfully troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment/machinery
- Strong mechanical and industrial knowledge, and basic electrical knowledge
- Ability to operate motor control systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatics, hoists, fire protection, and mechanical bearing systems
- Ability to comply with safety rules and requirements
- Experience operating metalworking tools such as grinders, band saws, drill presses, and welding equipment.
- A mechatronics certificate is strongly desired but not required
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Self-motivation and drive for continuous improvement
- Flexibility to work any shift hours as needed
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
