Position Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and compassionate Dietary Aide to join our Food Services team at Welcome Home Oak Harbor. As a Dietary Aide, you will play a vital role in ensuring our residents receive nutritious and appealing meals in a pleasant dining environment. You will assist with meal preparation, service, and maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen and dining area. This position requires attention to detail, a positive attitude, and a genuine desire to support the well-being of our residents.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of meals, snacks, and beverages according to planned menus and dietary needs, under the direction of the Dietary Manager or Cook.
  • Set up dining rooms and meal trays accurately and attractively, ensuring proper utensils, condiments, and beverages are provided.
  • Serve meals to residents in a courteous and timely manner, accommodating individual preferences and needs.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment thoroughly and efficiently, either manually or using dishwashing machinery.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen, dining areas, storage rooms, and equipment, adhering to established hygiene and safety standards.
  • Properly store food and supplies, ensuring correct labeling and rotation to prevent spoilage.
  • Assist with inventory control and notify the Dietary Manager of low stock or needed supplies.
  • Follow established safety regulations, including proper handling of equipment and chemicals.
  • Report any resident concerns or dietary issues to the Dietary Manager or nursing staff.
  • Participate in in-service training and meetings as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dietary Manager or Administrator.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in food service, preferably in a healthcare or long-term care setting, is a plus.
  • Knowledge of basic food handling and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact respectfully and compassionately with residents, staff, and visitors.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, lift, and carry objects.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and any other required screenings.
  • Food handler's permit or certification may be required depending on Washington state regulations.
