What are the responsibilities and job description for the Advancement Officer – Fundraising & Business Development position at Welcome Home Angel?
Welcome Home Angel is looking for a relationship-first, revenue-driven fundraiser who manages their pipeline like a business development professional and closes gifts with the same intentionality they'd close a sale. If that sounds like you — and you care about mission — keep reading.
About Welcome Home Angel
Welcome Home Angel transforms the homes of individuals and families navigating illness, disability, or the challenges of aging — ensuring home remains a place of safety, comfort, and dignity for those receiving care and the people who care for them. We've been doing this work since 2007, and we're growing.
This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Wilmington, NC. You'll report directly to the CEO and own WHA's fund development function end to end.
What You'll Do
- Own a prospect pipeline of 40–60 individual donors, corporate partners, and foundation contacts — moving each relationship from discovery through ask to close.
- Hit monthly activity targets: 12–15 prospecting calls, 7–9 meaningful visits, 2–4 formal asks submitted.
- Develop and close corporate partnerships for cash gifts, sponsorships, and in-kind support — treating corporate prospects with the same BD discipline as individual major donors.
- Write and submit grant applications and compliance reports; maintain a strong track record of successful awards.
- Grow recurring revenue through our Angel Ambassador monthly giving program and Service Partner corporate program.
- Support capital campaign planning and major gift solicitation.
- Track all activity in our donor CRM the same day it happens; use data to manage your portfolio and report on pipeline health to the CEO.
- Steward donors with intention — 48-hour acknowledgment rule, personalized impact updates, recognition that reinforces the relationship for the next ask.
What You Bring
- 3 years of experience in fundraising, sales, or business development — with a documented track record of pipeline management and closing.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills: you build trust quickly, sustain authentic long-term connections, and know how to move people from introduction to committed partner.
- Comfort with revenue accountability and activity metrics — you track your own numbers and are motivated by measurable progress.
- Demonstrated grant writing experience with successful awards.
- Experience with or exposure to capital campaigns, major gift solicitation, or multi-year giving programs.
- Proficiency with a donor CRM (Bloomerang or similar); able to run reports and use data to inform strategy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable in one-on-one donor meetings, small groups, and community events.
- Reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, and current car insurance.
Not from the nonprofit world? That's okay. If you've managed a territory or client portfolio in sales, account management, financial services, or corporate BD and you're drawn to mission-driven work — we want to hear from you. The skills transfer directly.
