We're currently seeking a passionate and skilled Senior Cost Accountant to join our team and contribute to our mission of delivering high-quality, engineered solutions to our customers worldwide. In this role you will own and strengthen the cost accounting function across a growing, multi-entity manufacturing organization. This role is critical to ensure accurate standard costing, inventory valuation, and actionable cost insights that directly support operational performance and margin improvement.

This position is ideal for a manufacturing cost accounting professional who enjoys partnering closely with plant operations, engineering, and supply chain teams, and who wants visibility and influence within a finance organization reporting directly to the CFO

Responsibilities:

Standard Costing & Product Costing

• Own and continuously improve the standard cost framework across all manufacturing entities to ensure accuracy, consistency, and transparency.
• Partner with operations, engineering, and production teams to establish and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, labor rates, machine rates, and overhead allocations.
• Lead the cost roll-up process, including the evaluation and implementation of changes related to materials, labor, overhead, and production methods.
• Evaluate the financial impact of process changes, material substitutions, and operational improvements on standard costs and margins.

Cost Variance Analysis

• Perform detailed analysis of cost variances including purchase price variance (PPV), labor efficiency, and overhead absorption.
• Provide root cause analysis and partner with operations and supply chain to resolve discrepancies and improve performance.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly cost reports for leadership.

Inventory Accounting & Controls

• Lead monthly manufacturing cost analysis, including purchase price variance (PPV), labor efficiency, overhead absorption, and production variances.
• Identify cost drivers, trends, and root causes, translating data into clear, actionable insights.
• Support pricing decisions, make-vs-buy analysis, and operational initiatives with sound cost analysis.
• Partner with plant leadership to drive continuous cost improvement and margin enhancement.

Inventory & Manufacturing Accounting

• Oversee inventory valuation, including raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.
• Support and validate cycle counts, physical inventories, inventory reconciliations, and inventory reserve analyses (obsolescence, excess).
• Collaborate with operations to ensure accurate inventory costing and reporting.

Financial Controls, Reporting & Close

• Support the monthly close process through timely and accurate cost-related journal entries, reconciliations, and analysis.
• Assist in manufacturing cost budgeting and forecasting, including COGS and operational expense inputs.
• Strengthen internal controls and audit readiness related to cost accounting and inventory processes.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Serve as the finance subject matter expert for costing within the ERP system (Plex).
• Drive improvements in cost reporting, data accuracy, standardization, and automation across entities.
• Participate in or lead finance initiatives tied to operational efficiency, profitability, and system enhancements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
• 5 years of hands-on manufacturing cost accounting experience.
• Deep expertise in standard costing, BOMs, routings, labor and overhead rates, inventory accounting, and variance analysis.
• Strong ERP experience: Plex ERP experience is a strong plus.
• Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
• Proven ability to partner effectively with plant operations and cross-functional teams.
• Highly detail-oriented with a proactive, solution-driven mindset.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-entity manufacturing environment.

This position is at our East Hanover, NJ location.

Pay Range: $115k-$130k
