Manufacturing Engineer Fiber Optic Assemblies – Hire for Projects

We are looking for a manufacturing engineer with work experience and an affiliation to fiber optics, optical lasers, or optical metrology instruments to work with our team at the Williamsburg, VA site for pre-defined projects:


General Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and evaluate existing manufacturing processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and opportunities for optimization
  • Develop and validate manufacturing processes for optical and mechanical assemblies
  • Design jigs, fixtures, and custom tools to meet tight tolerances and achieve high yield
  • Identify and implement effective use of measurement equipment and/or control systems to improve yield, increase throughput and/or verify features and product quality
  • Support of first article builds
  • Help with training of fabrication technicians in needed manufacturing techniques
  • Document of production techniques in procedures including photos and videos
  • Validate production processes and process capabilities
  • Research, select, and implement new manufacturing equipment and technologies to support production goals
  • Act as subject matter expert in specific production, fabrication, and/or manufacturing techniques
  • Process input to risk management, (p)FMEA and Control Plans
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for proposed process changes

Candidate is expected to finish a pre-defined project, for example, the design and introduction of a newly designed jig or manufacturing technique into operations.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and/ or Physics
  • 3 years of working experience in manufacturing, ideally related to fiber optic assemblies and/or related to FDA-regulated medical devices
  • Strong Mechanical Aptitude, and ability to develop and implement mechanical and electromechanical solutions to manufacturing problems.
  • Self-Motivated and Self-Directed with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Communication skills, cooperativeness, and ability to work in a team
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of software tools (MS Office, Solidworks, NX/Teamcenter)
  • Effective time management skills with ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to legally work in the United States
