Role Description
Weems Galleries & Framing is seeking a skilled Picture Framer for a full-time, on-site position in Albuquerque, NM. The Picture Framer will be responsible for crafting and assembling custom frames, consulting with clients to design frames that meet their specifications, and producing the projects on schedule. Daily responsibilities include interacting with customers to provide superior service and guidance in frame selection, designing and assembling frame/display projects, and collaborating with a small team. Using a saw, stretching canvas, cutting moving glass, cutting mat, making supply orders, and using a laser cutting machine are key components of this role.
Requirements
- Complete frame sale from start to finish, including greeting customer, designing frame option, producing quotes, work orders and invoices
- Manage customer accounts and deliver excellent customer service regarding inquiries, issues, change orders, backorders, picks ups, and any other framing related topic.
- Accurately estimate and price projects.
- Collaborate easily and open with a team of experienced framers and more junior framers, cooperatively and thoughtfully.
- Order framing materials from vendors, negotiate prices, oversee costs.
- Assist and educate less-experienced team members with complicated projects with positive coaching and instruction.
- Partner with business management to nurture and grow framing revenue and manage costs.
- This role takes place in a production environment within an upscale retail environment, and requires comfort in both areas throughout the day.
Skills & Requirements
- Five-to-seven years experience as a fine art framer and custom display producer.
- Excellent frame design skills, such as consulting with customers on their vision and needs, selecting appropriate materials, and communicating the options.
- Familiar with archival-quality framing approaches and archival materials.
- Very comfortable using chop saw for custom cutting and a wall-mounted glass cutter,
- Ability to accurately hand-cut mats, craft three-dimensional displays, sew down textiles, and stretch canvas.
- Adept at math calculations required for accurate framing (operations using decimals, fractions).
- Experience using computer cutting software, and familiar with digital framing software and production management tools (Lifesaver Cloud), and digital competency for emailing and file sharing/storage in a professional setting (Google Workspace, Shopify).
- Enjoyment of the customer service experience, getting to know regular customers, and problem-solving on the fly to design beautiful solutions.
- Professional commitment to the role and setting a standard as a senior member of a small team.
Physical Requirements
- Regular bending, lifting, carrying, reaching and stretching
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs, climb a ladder, and maneuver large pieces of glass.
- Ability to move throughout the store
- Ability to remain standing for long periods of time
- Lifting heavy boxes and frames and accessing high shelves by ladder or similar equipment
