Weems Community Mental Health Center currently has a fulltime Cook position available in Newton, Mississippi. This program works with adult clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare breakfast, lunch, and snacks according to established menus and recipes.
• Prepare meals in appropriate quantities for patients.
• Follow proper food handling, storage, temperature, and sanitation procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, dining, and food preparation areas.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, countertops, appliances, and work areas.
• Properly store, label, date, and rotate food and supplies.
• Monitor food inventory and notify the appropriate supervisor when supplies are needed.
• Assist with receiving and properly storing food deliveries.
• Maintain required food temperature and sanitation records.
• Ensure meals are prepared and served according to scheduled meal times.
• Maintain professional and respectful interactions with patients and staff.
• Follow all facility policies and procedures, including infection control, safety, and security requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding patients and facility operations.
• Report any concerns regarding food safety, kitchen equipment, supplies, or patient dietary needs to the appropriate supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• ServSafe certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification as required.
• Previous cooking experience required; institutional, healthcare, school, nursing home, or large-volume food preparation experience preferred.
• Knowledge of basic food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen sanitation.
• Ability to follow recipes, menus, measurements, and written instructions.
• Ability to prepare food in appropriate quantities while maintaining quality and consistency.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality are essential.
• Must be able to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with staff.
• Must be able to maintain a professional and respectful demeanor in a mental health/inpatient environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $14.00 per hour
