Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled 2nd Assistant Engineer - Unlimited (or higher) to join our dynamic maritime team.
Rotation: 21/21 (12 hr. days)
Crew Change Travel: Arranged and paid for by company
Union: Must be willing to join partner union within 30 days of employment
Duties
- Engineering watchstanding — Stand engine room watches and monitor propulsion, auxiliary, and dredge‑support systems.
- Preventive maintenance — Execute PMS tasks on engines, pumps, generators, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Troubleshooting & repairs — Diagnose equipment issues and perform corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Dredge system support — Assist with machinery supporting dredge operations, including drag arm, pump, and hopper systems. Assist senior engineers in routine maintenance and repair of vessel mechanical systems, including engines, pumps, and auxiliary equipment
- Recordkeeping — Maintain accurate logs, maintenance records, and regulatory documentation.
- Safety & compliance — Uphold USCG, ABS, and environmental standards; participate in drills and safety meetings.
- Team collaboration — Work closely with senior engineers and deck leadership to support vessel readiness.
Experience
- Proven experience in maritime engineering industry roles, preferably with a focus on vessel mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance
- Knowledge of USCG regulations related to watercraft operation, safety standards, and crew responsibilities
- Hands-on experience with water transportation equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Strong boat handling skills at sea, including rope handling and mooring operations under various weather conditions
- Ability to perform routine vessel inspections and participate in safety drills confidently
- Prior experience working within a team environment that emphasizes communication, safety protocols, and customer service
- Past dredging experience, preferred.
Requirements:
- Valid 2nd Assistant Engineer (UNL) MMC endorsement or higher
- Valid USCG Medical Certificate (STCW date)
- Valid TWIC
- Valid Driver's License
