Position Summary

The Traveling Senior Superintendent owns field execution for day-two construction at an active data center campus in Boydton, Virginia. This position leads the project from mobilization through final turnover, with responsibility for safety, security, production, quality, schedule, operational continuity, and field accountability.

The Senior Superintendent coordinates upgrades, expansions, retrofits, equipment replacements, tie-ins, and infrastructure improvements in a live, mission-critical environment. The successful candidate must understand the risks associated with working around active critical systems and execute the work with zero unplanned disruption to facility operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage daily field operations in an active, mission-critical data center while maintaining safety, security, quality, and uninterrupted facility operations.
  • Lead day-to-day field execution with responsibility for schedule, production, coordination, cost awareness, and accountability.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and trades, including manpower, materials, equipment, work areas, logistics, deliveries, access, and construction sequencing.
  • Coordinate electrical, mechanical, controls, fire protection, structural, architectural, and low-voltage scopes.
  • Direct subcontractors and field personnel, remove roadblocks, resolve trade conflicts, and hold project teams accountable for performance.
  • Manage short-term planning and production by leading coordination meetings, developing look-ahead plans, monitoring progress, and implementing recovery measures.
  • Lead daily coordination meetings, subcontractor planning sessions, pre-installation meetings, toolbox talks, and high-risk activity reviews.
  • Identify and communicate emerging issues early so they can be resolved before affecting safety, security, cost, schedule, quality, or data center operations.
  • Communicate project status, constraints, and risks to project stakeholders while coordinating timely solutions to field and operational issues.
  • Escalate unresolved field issues and critical-system risks promptly to project leadership, client representatives, and the Operations team.
  • Coordinate closely with the Operations team for MOPs, shutdowns, tie-ins, energizations, energized work, system impairments, equipment start-ups, testing, and other high-risk activities.
  • Verify that required permits, approvals, notifications, contingencies, back-out plans, and qualified personnel are in place before critical work begins.
  • Review and enforce approved methods of procedure, standard operating procedures, emergency operating procedures, lockout/tagout plans, and change-control requirements.
  • Identify system impacts, access limitations, operating constraints, and potential conflicts before work begins.
  • Stop work when conditions differ from the approved plan or when safety, security, quality, or operational continuity may be compromised.
  • Protect existing equipment, utilities, critical infrastructure, occupied spaces, and operational systems throughout construction.
  • Maintain compliance with project safety plans, site policies, security protocols, contract documents, approved submittals, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Manage site access, badging, escorts, restricted areas, material staging, delivery schedules, work zones, housekeeping, and daily logistics.
  • Enforce quality-control and workmanship standards through field inspections, installation verification, deficiency tracking, and punch-list management.
  • Verify that installations comply with drawings, specifications, approved submittals, manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and client standards.
  • Review drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, coordination documents, and change information before field execution.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in Procore, including daily reports, progress photographs, inspection records, issue logs, schedule updates, punch lists, redlines, and as-built information.
  • Coordinate inspections, pre-functional checks, testing, commissioning readiness, system start-up, turnover, and project closeout.
  • Drive deficiency and punch-list completion while ensuring systems and spaces are fully ready for client acceptance.
  • Mentor assistant superintendents and field personnel while establishing clear expectations for leadership, communication, and accountability.
  • Support the project goals of zero injuries, zero quality escapes, and zero unplanned operational disruptions.
