POSITION: Carroll County Weed Control Technician (Driver)
POSITION TYPE: Seasonal, full-time position (mid-April/May through the end of October/early November) from 7am to 3/3:30pm
JOB SUMMARY: Candidate drives throughout Carroll County assisting the Weed Control team in the control of noxious weeds and other invasive weeds.
JOB INFORMATION:
Carroll County, in cooperation with the Maryland Department of Agriculture, is recruiting a field-oriented Weed Control Technician to join the Weed Control Team in Carroll County. The Weed Control Technician role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in the field and driving. The technician will also map weed infestations and survey public and private properties for noxious weed infestations. Additional responsibilities may include interacting with the public and assist with inspections and hebicide mixing. As a driver, you must have a safe driving record, follow all state and national driving laws, rules, and regulations. You will also assist in maintaining vehicle and equipment upkeep and cleanliness.
Pay: $20 - $22 (based on qualifications and experience)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Practice safe driving habits
- Follow all state and national safety regulations and standards
- Accurately follow routes, maps, and directions
- Use mapping software to track treatment areas and/or google maps or other program to map infestations
- Assist with surveying and/or inspecting for the presence of noxious weeds and maintain records of findings
- Assist with mixing and/or applying herbicides and maintaining accurate records of treatments
- Assist with perform general upkeep and maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Minimum of 18 years of age
2. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
1. Ability to work outdoors in various conditions
2. Drive for extended periods of time
3. Positive attitude and professional demeanor
4. Strong verbal and written (English) communication skills
5. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
6. Physically able to lift and carry object up from 30 to 50 pounds
7. Physically able to reach, stretch, bend, and sit for long periods of time during daily routine
8. Basic understanding of mapping software and google maps.
9. Using safety practices when handling herbicides
