Machinist/Operator

Small high tech, specialty, entrepreneurial company with over 30 years of advanced aerospace mechanical power and drive system R&D seeks precision machinist to fabricate and finish bearing and gear material test specimens with anticipation of prototype components. Surface geometry, roughness, and texture is part of multiple leading-edge technologies that the company is launching.

Responsibilities

• Work with high level company and customer engineers to define fabrication and finishing processes to fulfill functional requirements based on high level surface contact science and engineering.
• Setup, operate, and maintain grinding and fabrication shop machines for 1st article and small lot test specimens.
• Conduct precision dimensional measurements and surface finish measurements.
• Fabricate fixtures for precision machining and finishing, along with test rig modifications.
• Fabricate specialty honing equipment with company engineers.
• Participate and communicate as team member for company mission and customer requirements.

Requirements

• High level skills and experience with surface grinding and plunge grinding, along with general machine shop experience and practices.
• Ability to read & produce fabrication drawings, along with knowledge of bearing & gear steels and heat treatment.
• Knowledge and experience with grinding wheel types, abrasives, and lapping materials.
• Skills in surface grinding, plunge grinding, and grinding wheel dressing.
• Passion for learning and going beyond the state-of-art; willing to take on new and difficult jobs.
• Must be able to work as a team member supporting company innovations and customer challenges
• Applicant must be U.S. citizen

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $24.76 - $55.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 – 50 per week
