Job Summary
Wecom is seeking an experienced Permit Specialist to support the deployment of fiber optic infrastructure. This role is responsible for securing and managing all permits, environmental approvals, right-of-way authorizations, and joint-use applications required for underground and aerial telecommunications construction across multiple jurisdictions.
The Permit Specialist works directly with state and federal agencies, local governments, utility providers, and environmental consultants to ensure approvals are submitted accurately, tracked proactively, and cleared prior to construction. This is a critical role that protects project timelines and revenue activation.

Key Responsibilities
- Research and identify all required permits, licenses, and regulatory approvals for fiber deployment projects.
- Prepare and submit complete and accurate permit applications in compliance with local, county, state, and federal regulations.
- Coordinate with state and federal agencies, municipalities, utilities, and environmental consultants to secure necessary approvals.
- Track permit, environmental, and joint-use application status and proactively follow up to prevent delays.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for permit-related inquiries from internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Maintain organized and audit-ready records of all applications, approvals, and correspondence.
- Ensure compliance with electrical and zoning laws, right-of-way requirements, traffic control standards, and environmental regulations.
- Collaborate with engineering, GIS, project management, and construction teams to align permitting with build schedules.
- Identify permitting risks early and recommend solutions to keep projects on track.
- Assist in resolving permit-related disputes, inspection issues, or stop-work notices.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of Design & Engineering operations.
- Minimum 3 years of permitting experience within the Telecommunications Industry.
- Direct experience with municipal, county, and state right-of-way permitting processes.
- Working knowledge of underground and aerial fiber construction methods.
- Experience coordinating joint-use / pole attachment applications.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple jurisdictions simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and permit tracking systems.
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel to project sites or jurisdictional offices as needed. Ability to review construction plans and work on a computer for extended periods.
