Job Summary
The EVS Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Environmental Services department within a nursing home facility to ensure a clean, safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment for residents, visitors, and staff. This position requires a hands-on leader who actively assists staff when needed, consistently walks floors and resident areas, and ensures housekeeping team members are performing duties correctly and according to facility standards, infection-control guidelines, and state regulations. The EVS Supervisor also oversees floor care operations and helps maintain a high standard of cleanliness and resident satisfaction throughout the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support EVS/housekeeping staff during daily operations within the nursing home facility
- Maintain a visible presence by consistently walking floors, resident rooms, hallways, dining areas, and common spaces to ensure cleanliness standards are met
- Ensure housekeeping staff are completing assignments properly, efficiently, and according to facility policies and healthcare regulations
- Provide hands-on assistance with cleaning duties and departmental coverage when needed
- Train and coach employees on proper cleaning procedures, infection control, safety standards, and resident-centered customer service
- Monitor cleanliness and sanitation of resident rooms, restrooms, nursing stations, common areas, offices, and high-touch surfaces
- Oversee floor care procedures including stripping, waxing, buffing, burnishing, carpet care, and hard floor maintenance
- Ensure proper use, storage, and maintenance of cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Manage staffing schedules, assignments, and daily workflow to meet facility needs
- Conduct routine quality inspections and correct deficiencies promptly
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and equipment and submit orders as necessary
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, infection prevention, nursing home regulations, and facility safety policies
- Respond promptly and professionally to resident, family, and staff concerns or cleaning requests
- Assist with employee evaluations, coaching, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement plans when necessary
- Work collaboratively with nursing, maintenance, and other departments to support overall resident care and facility operations
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous Environmental Services or housekeeping experience in healthcare or long-term care preferred
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Experience with floor care maintenance including stripping, waxing, buffing, burnishing, and carpet extraction
- Knowledge of infection-control procedures, sanitation standards, and healthcare safety regulations
- Ability to lead by example in a hands-on work environment
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays if needed
- Basic computer and scheduling knowledge preferred
Physical Requirements
