Overview
We are a growing contract manufacturing company supporting cosmetic, color, and OTC brands from concept through production. We are seeking an experienced Color Chemist to join our R&D team and support hands-on formulation, scale-up, and manufacturing for both color cosmetics and OTC products.
This role is ideal for a chemist who thrives in a fast-paced, GMP-regulated manufacturing environment and enjoys working on customer-driven development projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and reformulate color cosmetics including complexion, lip, and eye products
- Formulate and support OTC products in compliance with FDA regulations and OTC monographs
- Lead projects from lab development through scale-up and production support
- Conduct stability, compatibility, and performance testing
- Perform testing for bulk specs such as viscosity, volatile content, melting point, specific gravity, % solids etc….. as needed.
- Troubleshoot formulation and manufacturing issues during scale-up and production
- Partner closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and Regulatory teams
- Maintain accurate formulation documentation, batch records, and technical files
- Evaluate raw materials, pigments, actives, and suppliers
- Provide technical support for customer programs and internal innovation efforts
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, or related field
- Ability to shade matching a plus.
- 5 years of formulation experience with color cosmetics and/or OTC products
- Experience working in a contract manufacturing or private label environment
- Strong understanding of GMPs and FDA OTC regulations
- Experience with lab-to-production scale-up
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work onsite in Torrance, CA
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SPF, acne, or other regulated OTC products
- Hands-on experience with pigment dispersions, shade matching, and color theory
- Background supporting multiple customer-driven projects simultaneously
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, needed to effectively communicate with, Management, guests, customers, vendors, suppliers, etc.
