Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Policy Markup & Preparation
- Review title commitments, title searches, and supporting documentation to accurately markup owner's and loan policies
- Identify and apply appropriate endorsements, exceptions, and schedule modifications based on examination findings
- Ensure policies comply with applicable underwriter guidelines, state regulations, and company standards
- Verify legal descriptions, vesting information, and encumbrances are accurately reflected on each policy
- Coordinate with examiners, closers, and underwriters to resolve policy discrepancies or title defects prior to remittance
Policy Typing & Document Preparation
- Type and finalize owner's and lender's title insurance policies using company and underwriter policy production systems
- Prepare policy jackets, schedules, and endorsements with accuracy and attention to detail
- Maintain proper file documentation and ensure all supporting documents are scanned and indexed
- Generate remittance reports and policy logs as required by underwriter agreements
Underwriter Remittance
- Remit completed policies to underwriters within established timelines per agency agreements
- Reconcile remittance batches against policy register and ensure proper premium allocation
- Maintain knowledge of premium rates, remittance schedules, and underwriter-specific submission portals
- Monitor and resolve any rejected or returned policies, making necessary corrections and resubmitting
- Assist in underwriter audits by providing requested policy files, remittance records, and supporting documentation
Quality Control & Compliance
- Perform quality review of completed policies before remittance to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Adhere to underwriter guidelines, state-mandated policy forms, and applicable ALTA standards
- Track outstanding policies and follow up with appropriate parties to ensure timely completion
- Identify recurring errors or workflow inefficiencies and recommend process improvements
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in title insurance, including exposure to title examination, policy preparation, or closing
- Working knowledge of title examination principles, including reading and interpreting title search results, legal descriptions, and chain of title
- Familiarity with owner's and lender's policy forms (ALTA/CLTA) and common endorsements
- Understanding of underwriter remittance processes and agency agreement requirements
- Proficiency in typing with high accuracy; experience with title production software (e.g., SoftPro, RamQuest, Greenfolders, or similar)
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple files simultaneously
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
- Experience working directly with one or more major title underwriters (e.g., Fidelity, Stewart, Old Republic, First American, Catic)
- Knowledge of state-specific title insurance regulations and premium rate filings
- Familiarity with underwriter online portals and electronic remittance systems
- Title insurance license or notary certification where required by state law
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in business, paralegal studies, or a related field
Skills & Competencies
- Title examination knowledge sufficient to independently review and mark up policies
- Accuracy and thoroughness in document preparation and data entry
- Ability to interpret and apply underwriter guidelines and state regulations
- Strong time management and organizational skills to meet remittance deadlines
- Collaborative approach to working with closers, processors, and underwriting staff
- Discretion in handling confidential client and financial information
Work Environment
This position is performed in a professional office environment. The role requires extended periods of computer use and requires the ability to concentrate in a deadline-driven setting. Occasional overtime may be required during peak volume periods or to meet underwriter remittance deadlines.

Salary Range
This is a full-time, in-office position based in Rochester, NY. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications within the following ranges:
