What are the responsibilities and job description for the Visiting Faculty - Criminology and Criminal Justice position at Webster University?

Webster University’s department of Law, Crime, and Social Justice invites applications for a one-year visiting professorship in Criminology and Criminal Justice to begin in August, 2026.

Duties of the position include: teaching in, overseeing, and building the profile of the criminology and criminal justice programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels; student recruitment; contributing to research or service in criminology and criminal justice; student advising; program assessment and curricular revisions; and student outreach. Emphasis area is open, but emphasis areas such as GIS or forensics are especially welcome. 

 

The desirable candidate will be able to demonstrate academic and teaching proficiency related to Criminology and Criminal Justice through their academic research and/or professional experience. In addition to teaching in the candidate's area of specialization, the program has teaching needs in Legal Studies, and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. We hope to hire someone who will contribute to Webster's focus on supporting the needs of a diverse student body. 

 

 Individuals need to be flexible and able to teach in multiple modalities including: 

  1. Face-to-Face only
  2. Hybrid Classroom*
  3. Remote (synchronous learning)
  4. Online (asynchronous learning)

 

*The hybrid classroom instructor should have experience simultaneously teaching students in the classroom (face-to-face) and students remotely through video technology.  

 

This is a full-time faculty position appointment with a 9-month teaching appointment for the academic year. The position will be in-person on our main campus at Webster Groves, MO, a suburb of St. Louis. The position will start in August 2026.

Qualifications:

Terminal degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or closely related field.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Teaching experience at the university level
  2. Experience teaching a diverse student population, including international students
  3. Experience or interest in curriculum development
  4. Experience or interest in program oversight and administration
  5. Experience or interest in student recruiting and retention
