The Town of Webster is seeking a full-time Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator for the Walter Bradley Treatment Plan (7.1 MGD) located on 226 Phillips Road. This is a supervisory and technical position responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a Type 4A Wastewater Treatment Plant with facilities for activated sludge process (including all modifications). Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications below may apply for provisional appointment*.

• Provisional candidates must meet the minimum requirements established by Civil Service, sit for the next examination for the position and be reachable on the resultant civil service list.

• Supervises and directs the operation of the plant to ensure the most efficient and economical use of equipment, supplies, and personnel;
• Makes daily inspections of plant and plant machinery;
• Makes or supervises necessary tests for control of plant operation;
• Supervises the treatment and disposal of sludge;
• Supervises the maintenance and repair of machinery;
• Assigns plant personnel to shifts;
• Instructs and supervises Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators, Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainees, and other laboratory and mechanical staff;
• Maintains inventory of supplies, chemicals, and equipment;
• Requisitions materials;
• Maintains records and prepares periodic reports on the operation of the plant.

Minimum Qualifications:

Possession of a Grade 4A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification issued under the provisions of the Environmental Conservation Law. A Copy of certification must be submitted at time of application.
