Description:

The Director of Nursing is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, evaluating and effectively directing the nursing staff and program in order to ensure the delivery of high quality resident care and services consistent with regulations and established clinical best practices at Heritage of Webster County.


This position complies with department and organization-wide policies, long-term care facility requirements, safety, and infection control, and all Federal and State of Nebraska regulations related to the performance of Heritage of Webster County operations and requirements of the compliance program.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports best practices and objectives and participates in revision of these as necessary to ensure the provision of the highest quality of care to all residents.
  • Develops short and long-range planning for nursing function.
  • Ensures that nursing interventions meet each resident's personal, physical and cognitive needs and maximize his/her self-care capacities, identity, independence, choice, and opportunity for social interaction.
  • Reviews and updates documentation related to resident care, including assessments, progress notes, and incident reports.
  • Participates in admission decisions to ensure resident needs can be met by facility nursing capabilities.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and quality standards.
  • Ensures safe and sanitary environment for residents, employees, and visitors via oversight of safety and maintenance functions.
  • Ensures treatments are administered appropriately by employees, providing consults to ensure medications and supplies are stored and controlled properly.
  • Supervises nursing and activities departments and employees.
  • Completes work schedules, delegates assignments, and evaluates job performance.
  • Set goals and standards for nursing services and holds regular staff meetings to provide communication and direction.
  • Assists with personnel management activities of assigned areas, provides guidance to charge nurses on the training and development of nursing staff.
  • Coordinates with human resources on hiring, orienting and training staff, performance recognition, disciplinary action, evaluation, promotion, etc.
  • Maintains strong relationships with residents, families, and medical professionals.
  • Fosters a positive and supportive work environment for staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques and appropriate equipment to minimize fall risk to resident and injury to self.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a current Nebraska state license.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Nursing leadership experience in a long-term care setting.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal regulations governing nursing homes.
  • Commitment to providing compassionate and resident-centered care.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

  • Current Registered Nurse License from the State of Nebraska
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
