ABOUT THE ROLE
Webster, Chamberlain & Bean LLP is looking for a full-time Associate Tax Attorney to join our DC-based law firm.
We are looking for a tax attorney (minimum 5 years experience) familiar with tax-exempt law. The ideal candidate will have IRS and/or Tax Court experience and will be comfortable advising on matters such as unrelated business income, Form 990 reporting, audits, excess benefit transactions and compensation arrangements, excise taxes, self-dealing, grant-making, charitable giving, lobbying, and political activities, and business combinations.
Education & Relevent Experience
- JD degree from an accredited law school;
- 5 years of progressive legal experience;
- Experience with several of the following matters beyond tax law a plus: contracts, leases, tax LLM, charitable state registration, antitrust, corporate governance, corporate compliance, trademark, data protection, privacy, and employment law.
Professional Certification and Affiliations
- Member in good standing of the bar of at least one state (licensed to practice in the District of Columbia or the ability to waive in).
Skill Requirements
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills essential
- Must have demonstrated ability in appropriate legal skills (e.g., legal analysis, research, and writing)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Exhibit exceptional attention to detail with the ability to review and edit large documents.
- Must have consensus-building skills to assert positions confidently plus the ability to build strong, supportive client rapport.
- Experience in nonprofit or association law ideal but not required.
- Tax and/or benefits-pension experience preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent research skills
