Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on and highly organized Yard Manager / Operations Lead to oversee daily operations at our container depot in Houston. This role is responsible for managing container inventory, coordinating dispatch, and ensuring efficient yard operations to support container sales and rentals.
We are looking for someone who can take full ownership of yard operations and grow with the company as we scale. The ideal candidate has experience in container depots, trucking yards, or logistics operations, and can operate independently to keep the yard running smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all yard activities including container receiving, storage, movement, and dispatch
- Maintain accurate container inventory tracking, including availability, location, and condition
- Coordinate delivery and pickup scheduling with drivers and third-party trucking companies
- Supervise forklift operators and yard staff to ensure efficient container handling and stacking
- Organize yard layout to optimize space utilization and operational flow
- Ensure containers are accessible, properly stacked, and ready for delivery at all times
- Track container condition, identify damages, and coordinate repairs and maintenance
- Enforce safety standards and operating procedures across all yard activities
- Work closely with the sales team to ensure timely fulfillment of customer orders
- Monitor daily operations and implement improvements to increase efficiency and reduce delays
Experience
- Container depot operations
- Ability to manage and lead a small team (forklift operators and yard staff)
- Trucking / logistics yard management
- Heavy equipment or materials handling environments
- Strong understanding of inventory control and yard organization
- Experience coordinating dispatch, deliveries, and logistics operations
- Hands-on familiarity with forklifts and container handling equipment
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to operate in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle day-to-day operational challenges independently
Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
