Job Summary/Basic Function
Adjunct instructor of Community Education Center non-credit English as Second Language Program (ESL) as needed to teach one or two basic English courses that are 11 weeks long as needed. This instructor will provide instruction to community adult learners.
This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become

Required Qualifications
Bachelors of Education with a language endorsement or certification such as an ESL endorsement, or TESOL certification
Qualified candidates must possess a specific knowledge base and skill set that includes, at a minimum, the following:
A minimum of one year teaching ESL experience in a classroom setting
Qualified candidates must possess a specific knowledge base and skill set that includes, at a minimum, the following:
- Language teaching methodology
- The nature of language/languages (e.g., introduction to linguistics)
- The structure of English (e.g., syntax, phonology, morphology, discourse)
- Second language acquisition
A minimum of one year teaching ESL experience in a classroom setting
Preferred Qualifications
Experience living in a foreign country
Conversational use of a second language
Two or more years of teaching ESL in a classroom setting
One or more years of experience teaching ESL to adult learners in a classroom setting
Conversational use of a second language
