Position Details
The purpose of this position is to provide academic advisement in the College of Engineering, Applied Science & Technology. An academic advisor also works with faculty, staff, and administration to further the mission of the college. This job involves advising and counseling students regarding both their college and future careers, assisting them with the admissions process, monitoring their progress to increase retention rates through the completion of a program, which would prepare students for employment and graduation.
This position involves assisting with New Student Orientations (both in the college and university-wide), attending meetings of the university advisors’ council, participating in transfer days or other recruiting/advising events, and engaging in other professional development opportunities. Standard hours of operation are daytime Monday through Friday at multiple campuses with periodic evening and weekend work.
This position involves assisting with graduate student enrollment as needed.
This position involves providing face-to-face advisement at least one day per week at the Davis Campus.
- Bachelor’s degree
- One-year full-time employment experience preferably in enrollment services (academic advisement, registrations, admissions, or financial aid), student services, or the equivalent in higher education and/or the K-12 system.
- Basic computer skills including familiarity with things such as Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and Zoom.
- Proficiency with Spanish, both written and spoken
- Familiarity with or the ability to become a skilled user of Banner, Starfish, word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, and other technological tools upon which WSU relies.
- Knowledge or experience with STEM-related programs/activities related to the programs in the College of Engineering, Applied Science & Technology
- Ability to interact and connect well with a wide variety of students and circumstances
- Ability to analyze course prerequisites, certification, and/or graduation requirements
