Job Summary/Basic Function
The Walker Institute is responsible for fostering civics in our Northern Utah community. This includes events that bring political thought leaders and elected officials to campus to discuss political and policy issues. Additionally, this includes events in collaboration with community partners to host civic education on campus that brings hundreds of elementary and secondary students to campus. The Walker Institute also hosts curriculum that allows people to earn credentials for their public service career, which brings hundreds of state and local employees to campus every year. This position will manage this program, being responsible for our public facing work both internally on our campus and externally in our Northern Utah community.
The Walker Institute program includes, but is not limited to, the following:

- Walker Institute Talks, Constitution Day, Weber State Votes, Haven J. Barlow Civic Leadership Forum, Walker Civics Symposia.
- State Mock Trial Junior High competition, We The People middle school constitutional trivia competition, National Civics Bee Regional Competition, Northern Utah Model United Nations.
- The state mandated Olene S. Walker VOTE Certification for elections officials.
Required Qualifications
Required:
- Earned bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or the equivalent combination of education and experience totaling four years
- One year of related experience that includes event planning and management
- Experience with desktop computing and use of the Web for information gathering and program administration
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment as a team player
- Demonstrated skill set centered on cultural awareness, group dynamics and human development
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop and sustain relationships with community agencies, students, staff and faculty
