Job Summary/Basic Function
The Botany Teaching Assistant (TA) will serve as instructional apprentice under the guidance and supervision of a faculty member. The specific duties of the TA will depend on the nature of the course/lab to which the TA is assigned and the support needs of the department as a whole. Duties may include assisting with course preparation, instructional support in labs and/or fieldwork (including guiding students in best practices and safety), leading review sessions and discussions, mentoring independent projects and assisting with grading.

This position is 50/50 eligible, student must be enrolled full-time and have at least a 2.0 GPA in order to qualify.

**This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time, the pool will expire and applicants will be notified

Required Qualifications
Has completed the class in need of a TA with a B or better grade (Contact Sonya Welsh sonyawelsh@weber.edu to inquire which class is currently seeking a TA). Approval of the course instructor. Current major in the college of science.

Preferred Qualifications
Botany major. Previous experience in teaching such as tutoring.

Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Physical Requirements of this position
Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision.
Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.

The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position.
The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. , The worker is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity. , The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. , The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
