Job Description/Overview:
Under the direction of the Student Services department and school nursing:
- Perform health screenings, including vision and scoliosis
- Coordinate referrals to private healthcare providers
- Serve as liaisons between school personnel, family, and community healthcare providers to ensure a healthy school environment
- Work with school teams to develop health care plans for student care based on assessment, interventions, and identification of outcomes, and the evaluation of care
- Serve as consultants with other school professionals, such as food service personnel, physical education teachers, coaches, mental health specialists, and counselors
- Provide health-related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings, including maturation, sexually transmitted infections, handwashing, dental health, and other health related topics in the classroom
- Monitor immunizations, manage communicable diseases, and assess the school environment as needed to prevent injury and ensure safety
- Oversee infection control measures in coordination with the local health department
- Actively participate in school safety plans that address school violence, bullying, and emergencies that may occur at school
- Oversee medication administration, health care procedures, and the development of emergency action plans
- Make decisions related to the delegation of healthcare tasks as directed by state laws and professional practice guidance
- Provide health advice to school educational teams, such as the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) team, Child Study Teams, etc
- Assist families with locating outside care and obtaining health insurance
- Provide training to school staff members in CPR/First Aid/ AED and health promotion practices.
- Maintain flexibility, such as changes in staff or individual student programs
- Attend required district meetings and events
- Drive to school sites in districts
- Regular attendance is critical
- Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- BSN or Bachelor degree in a health-related field
- Current Utah RN license
- At least one year of nursing experience
- Valid Driver’s License
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Requires the mobility to reach and bend (neck and back)
- Requires mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects
- Requires mobility to maneuver through classroom and school environments independently
- Requires lifting and carrying of objects of up to 50 pounds, which may be a rare aspect of the job
- Requires pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 100 pounds, which may be a rare aspect of the job
- May require working with bio-hazards (bloodborne pathogens, human waste, cleaning/disinfecting materials, etc.)
- Requires independent transportation throughout the Weber School District geographical area
