This position is for 8.00 hours per day, 180 days (9 months) per year, is compensated according to Lane 4(B) of the Education Support Professionals Salary Schedule, and is eligible for benefits and retirement.

Purpose Statement:

 

The role of the Student Advocate Aide is to support students below proficiency in a relational, non-punitive manner, fostering trust and rapport. This role is essential in helping students build academic, behavioral, and social skills through encouragement and tailored guidance, allowing them to stay on pace or progress within the Weber School District graduation plan. Working under the guidance of WIC and WOL Administration and Counseling, the Advocate Aide will provide direct support, help students access school and community resources, and collaborate with all stakeholders in the student's educational journey.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Different School Environment: This position operates within a blended learning environment where students work through online coursework at their own pace within the school setting. Students follow a flexible “Free Flow” schedule without traditional class periods and are expected to demonstrate autonomy and self-management in completing their coursework. Students may demonstrate proficiency at an accelerated pace, allowing them to complete courses earlier than in a traditional setting. As an advocate, you will support students in meeting their individualized academic goals.
  • Key Role in MTSS Framework: Actively support the school’s MTSS framework, with a primary focus on Tier 2 and Tier 3 students through ongoing monitoring, mentoring, intervention support, and progress tracking.
  • Relationship Building with Students: Build trust-based relationships with students, recognizing that meaningful connections are foundational to addressing academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
  • Guidance and Advocacy: Provide holistic student support to help students meet academic, behavioral, and graduation requirements. Collaborate with families, teachers, counselors, and community partners while proactively monitoring attendance, engagement, and behavioral indicators.
  • Academic Support and Coaching: Support students in setting goals, completing progress monitoring tools, developing effective study habits, and building the skills necessary to transition successfully back to Tier 1 support when appropriate.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Maintain open, timely, and professional communication with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders to foster strong school-home partnerships and coordinated student support.
  • Data Collection and Progress Monitoring: Collect, monitor, and analyze student data related to attendance, academic progress, engagement, and behavior in order to inform interventions and support plans.
  • Record Keeping and Confidentiality: Maintain accurate documentation of student and family interactions while adhering to confidentiality requirements, professional ethics, and district policies.
  • Student Supervision: Assist in supervising students in both instructional and non-instructional settings to help maintain a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment.
  • Social-Emotional Support: Provide a safe and supportive environment where students can develop social-emotional skills, self-management strategies, resilience, and positive interpersonal skills.
  • Professional Growth: Participate in ongoing professional learning, staff collaboration, and school and district meetings to support continuous improvement.
  • Classroom Support and Substitute Coverage: Provide classroom support and substitute coverage as needed to maintain continuity of instruction and student engagement.
  • One-on-One and Small Group Support: Work closely with students individually and in small groups to provide targeted academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support.
  • Attendance is an Essential Function of this Position: Physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. The role requires in-person collaboration, direct interaction with team members, other staff, students, and/or guardians, and access to on-site equipment and resources.
  • Due to the dynamic nature of this position, additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Other Functions

  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities):

  • Technical Proficiency: Competency in using Google Suite (especially Sheets and Docs) to track, analyze, and communicate student progress effectively.
  • Instructional Knowledge: Familiarity with tutoring, instructional, and intervention techniques suited to adolescents; ability to adapt support to students’ individual needs and development stages.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Capacity to creatively address students’ challenges, supporting them in setting and achieving their goals.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and empathetic communication with students, staff, families, and community partners, fostering open and supportive relationships.

Job Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience working with students in a school or related environment is preferred.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in education, social work, or counseling is beneficial.
